Well, trying the IP address was the thing I was going to suggest.
Perhaps also try pinging the server ip address from one of the laptops. This will confirm that they can see your server.
Other than that I'm a bit stumped. I guess you could try disabling any firewalls on the laptops and seeing whether that makes a difference?
Hopefully someone else will come along with brighter ideas than me.
