TightVNC not showing desktop

Hello, New here and having some trouble getting this up and running!

So I followed the instructions exactly, I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Server with no gui. I've gotten everything working properly up to the point of using TightVNC to remote in. When I remote in I don't see any desktop. I just see 3 options at the top. Here is a screen shot.



So my question is, how do I get the desktop to show up? I downloaded the gnome desktop files using the command.

Yeah, this seems to be broken on 14.04. There are a few threads posted recently on here about potential alternatives. Have a read through and see if they help.
