Hi there and welcome to the forums

Do you not get ANY sort of message displayed on the screen? ie. you try and reboot and then see absolutely nothing?

Hi Ton,

I've moved your issue into a new topic to increase its exposure.

Can you get into the BIOS?

Have you tried putting the Ubuntu disk back into the CD/DVD drive and booting into it?

Does the server emit any beeps when it's rebooting? If so, how many.

I can't help but think this is a hardware fault although it does seem strange that it happens immediately after installing Ubuntu. :?

Before i begin i want to thank everybody for helping me.

I,m working with :

Motherboard Asrock a75M-hvs for AMD APU processors
memory 2x2 Gb
HD Western Digital 1TB

I,m not working with an optical drive because i dont,t need it for now and i dont have one lying around (no ide only sata onboard).
I,ve tried the netboot approach with a USB-stick to install the server.
After booting the USB to install the server i have chosen a guided installation with LVM. Made a partition of 30 GB for this.
During the installation i encountered no problems. The last message i get is that grub is installed in the MBR.
After the reboot the monitor lights up faintly (almost not noticable) and about 2-3 seconds later the is no signal anymore sent to the monitor

If i plug in my USB-stick again the only options i get are :
installation of the server(again)
check disk for errors
boot from harddrive

when choosing the last option still nothing.
t
During initial startup i get the possibility of getting into the (UEFI)- BIOS

Thanks Ton

tony have you tried altering the uEFI/BIOS for your boot drive to BIOS, newer Dell servers will only boot from HDD if the uEFi is set to BIOS for that HDD, to boot from CD/DVD you have to set the uEFI CD/DVD ROM to uEFI so you can boot from DC/DVD ROM. Worth a shot I guess.

I have tried booting in uefi mode and in BIOS legacy mode, with HDD as 1st boot priority

Ah OK then.

Let's look at the fact's

1. System boot's to uEFI/BIOS.
2. You able to install the OS without any issue's.
3. The system will boot the OS.

I am thinking that the GRUB bootloader has somehow got corrupted. On one of my earlier builds this happened to me, but I can't think for the life of me how I fixed it, apart from reinstalling the OS.

Personally I do not like partitioning a HDD for a boot drive in Linux, I much prefer a separate boot drive, should anything go wrong I can replace the boot drive and my data is still sat on the data drives all safe and sound, it is a bit of a task removing LVM from a partition, well at least in my experience this has been the case.
