Hi. Have been following the install procedure outlined on htkh to build a media server using the ubuntu lts 12.04 server version; I installed the vnc server and then ran it with

Code: Select all

$vncserver
entered password, etc.

but there is no file /home/username/.xnc/startup to edit.

so I'm stuck.

Hi there,

Were you in "root" when you issued that command?

Ian.

Hi. Thanks for your reply.

I don't remember if I was root or not; but there were other problems with that install - files that could not be found, etc. I checked the hash and the iso was fine; there were several sources that were unavailable. Eventually I gave up on the LTS and went with the latest Ubuntu server edition 13.X or whatever. That worked fine. I realize it's only supported for 9 more months or so; but at least it's working. I can upgrade from here.
