Basic Problems with MusicIP

Hi,
I have been following your guide to install Ubuntu Server, My interest is primarily centred around Squeezebox Server. All was well in installing Squeezebox Server (allowing for the occasional wrong turn) but I have had no luck with the MusicIP set-up. I should explain that I am an Ubuntu novice so when things go awry, I am totally at a loss.

Squeezebox Server (without MusicIP) works well, it successfully scans my music collection (held in FLAC on a network share) and I can listen to music on both my Windows PC (SoftSqueeze) and on my Squeezebox. However, when introducing MusicIP (following the guide) Squeezebox Server "loses" all my music. At first I thought I was being impatient, and that perhaps MusicIP would take a while to scan the music collection and then Squeezebox Server would then get going. However, I can see no evidence (processes) that MusicIP is doing anything.

The guide doesn't include any configuration of MusicIP so I don't think I can have got this wrong, but it may mean that MusicIP is not looking at the network share.

The Squeezebox Server log shows the scan finishing almost immediately having found 0 songs/albums etc.

It is entirely possible that I have missed a step (although I have checked - twice), but at this point I don't know how to check what is NOT happening. Where can I find a log of what MusicIP is or is NOT doing?

Many thanks,

Dave D.

Hi Dave.

Welcome to the forum.

It seems Ian hasn't been around for a while.

I know that I am not going to be any help to you with your issues, I just thought I would let you know that question has not been ignored.

Hopefully Ian will be along shortly to aid you.

Andy

Hi Dave,

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you, I've been a bit AWOL but am back now.

My first thoughts with MusicIP are that you've not pointed it at your music correctly.

So, start a Putty session on your main desktop and then try and list the music folder on your server using the "ls" command. Once you've got the path correct then paste that path string into the "Add Music" box on the MusicIP interface. Then hit the Add Music button. The section on the left of the interface "Total songs, Mixable songs, Songs to validate" should show how far MusicIP has got working through your music. If all the numbers remain at zero then MusicIP is not able to see your music and we'll need to do some delving to try and work out why that is.

Or have you been there done that already?

Ian.
