Ripping movie files from pc direct to the server

Hi again

I was wondering how I would best go about setting up the following:

I currently use my win7 based pc to rip DVDs, specifically I use DVDfab to convert files from VOB to avi, files are written directly from DVDFab on my pc to my NAS device .

I am in the process of setting up my server so I can run PLEX media server as I have a few client machines (network attached Bluray players) that can apparently run a PLEX app. When setting up my ubuntu server, I installed the system files onto a 8GB CF card, and added a sepeaate drive for data. This data drive is formatted FAT32 in the hope that the windows and mac based machines in our house will be able access it (I wasn't certain if ext3 would have meant this was not possible).

I have PLEX working, streaming files from the FAT32 formatted drive, but cannot 'see' the fat32 formatted drive from windows. I can see the server and can log into it, but see no files at all. What I want to achieve is to point DVDFab output to a Movies folder currently based in my MEDIA folder on the unbuntu server. Is this possible and could someone point me in the right direction?

many thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

What you want to achieve is possible although I'm not sure whether the performance will be up to the job. Have a read of this page, specifically the paragraph under Creating Folders which starts "Now, let's share this folder. So back to Webmin and go to Servers -> Samba Windows File Sharing........."
