Hi,
I followed the instruction at:
http://www.havetheknowhow.com/Configure ... l-VNC.html
everything is as it should, I get the "New ... desktop is ...." message etc.
When I connect from the PC VNC just brings up the console which I can already do with Putty.....
Looking at the server log file:

TightVNC shows console not desktop
Re: TightVNC shows console not desktop
Hi bradburts and welcome to the forum.
Well, I've not come across this one before
Can you show us the contents of your .vnc/xstartup file in your next message please?
What are you using as the client on your desktop? What OS are you running on your desktop?
Ian.

Re: TightVNC shows console not desktop
Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I am afraid that this is a case of not having RTFM
Somehow I missed installing Gnome, guess that explains the console.
Learnt a lot about VNC configurations though!
