Anyone try Cloudmin?

Post by Harm Kollumer »

Hello all,

First of all i have to say that this it is a great source to start building a Linux media server!
I will start building 1 myself soon. ( im getting a hp n40l )
I have started reading through the whole build guide and browsed the webmin site.
Then i came across a plugin called Cloudmin GPL: http://www.webmin.com/cloudmin.html

Has anyone tried this to manage KVM?

I ask this question because im quite new to all of this and was hoping to not have to jump too often to a CLI.

Hello there and welcome to the forums

Prior to your post I'd not heard of Cloudmin. Having had a brief look at the website I'm not convinced it'll be much help in a home environment. Although it seems to provide a GUI interface to setting up a single VM you can install VNC and virt-manager (both using my guides) and I think you'll get the same thing, if not more since you can set up as many VMs as you like using virt-manager. Granted there is a bit of command line stuff required to achieve this but everything you need to know should already be in my guides. Plus of course you'll get help via these forums if you get stuck.

Obviously the route you take is entirely your decision. If it makes any difference I'll not be switching to use Cloudmin

Ian.
