Hi, I am still messing about with PCI passthrough and posted a question elsewhere on some detail regarding card install and got a reply I was not expecting :- "For me, it was just easier to have network-based tuners. No passthru needed. Can record 4 hidef channels concurrently inside a KVM guest VM. HD Homerun makes these." [from the USA I guess]
I was not aware of this option (or why didn't anyone tell me) but having done the searches now I found some UK units; I have to have one and I think you will all want one too.
This solves all sorts of problems at a stoke.
I have gone for this make http://www.vboxcomm.com/uk-freeview-and-freesat.html, mainly because I like black boxes, but there are others out there. They make a Gateway XTi 3340 which has 2 satellite and 2 terrestrial cards.
I just thought everyone would all be interested in this option if, like me, you had not come across it before.

My development path means that I mess about with lots of stuff I don't quite understand and get nowhere fast however this is the story so far....
The multi-tuner network tuner card is such a good idea not least as it circumvents the problems, mentioned elsewhere in the forum, of passing tuner cards and other cards through to virtual machines.
With a network tuner live TV can be streamed on any browser that will accept a VLC plug-in also on all sorts smart phones and tablets and fridge doors probably.
Chrome WAS the best as it has Extensions to help discover the network box and stuff but Chrome, for all the right reasons, has abandoned the now untrusted Netscape PlugIns NPAPI in favour of PPAPI which means there is no VLC plug-in for Chrome so Firefox or possibly Explorer will do but without the twiddly bits.
The inbuilt scheduler can also be accessed with a browser, add USB or network storage and away you go.
Live TV and recordings can also be streamed through Kodi which means you can dispense with the likes of MythTV though recordings can not be directly setup through Kodi at present {switch back to a browser}, there is a PVI ,what ever that is, in active development to make the recording facility directly accessible to Kodi.
Sorry if it reads like an advert but it does rather stack up in my view, now I must get the dish on the chimney wired up and then an extra hard drive for the server not to mention the hedge that needs trimming.
