I have been poking around for awhile and finally finished my build! I really appreciate all the information Ian has put together (possibly because nothing was out there!!!) here.
I have had trouble with Lucid so I stepped up to the Natty (11.04) so my network port would work, as well as system crashing after some tweaking. Reloaded several times.
My specs, for what its worth, are as follows, all purchased from NewEgg.com
Case: NORCO|RPC-450B (10 drive capacity)
Motherboard: INTEL|BOXDH61BEB3 H61 LGA1155 R
Power Supply: ROSEWILL|RG700-S12 700W RT
CPU: INTEL|CORE I3 2100 3.1G 3M R
Memory: 2Gx2|GSKILL F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL
Drives: 60GB SSD for OS 1TBx5 Seagate for data
I already had the hard drives so the build was under $400
This has been a fun, hard, educational, steep learning curve! Now, just to get it fine tuned ;(

Re: Greetings All...
Hi Acme and welcome to the forums
Curious that you hit problems with 10.04. Normally people hit problems in the later releases rather than the early ones. But glad you solved them.
You've got quite an impressive set up there. That case is an absolute monster
So, what do you plan to do with it? Storing/streaming media or something else?
Is this your first ever build or have you been there before? What made you go with Ubuntu? What are you doing about RAID and/or backups?
Sorry for all the questions, people say I'm a bit too nosey but I just can't help myself
Ian.

Re: Greetings All...
Ian isn't the only one interested in your build, c'mon spill the beans.

It's version 11.04, most of what you have posted works. Some kinks are that when I log on with VNC when ever I would type "d" it would hide the window. Took me two days to figure it out.Ian wrote:Curious that you hit problems with 10.04.
I wanted something to grow into not grow out of. I first got the idea from this thread (how he built his server).Ian wrote:That case is an absolute monster
I will be streaming media and using it as a back up.Ian wrote:So, what do you plan to do with it? Storing/streaming media or something else?
I've built several Win desktop boxes.Ian wrote:Is this your first ever build or have you been there before?
Reading your site I was moved to move into unfamiliar territory.Ian wrote:What made you go with Ubuntu?
I am still working on the FlexRaid, can't seem to get the 4 1TB drives to mount....Ian wrote:What are you doing about RAID and/or backups?
